A comparison of consumer cost structures between the EHP and an
insurance program under a three year management period for a
catastrophic illness such as cancer
This comparison shows the annual cost of the EHP program with the purchase of
a dual service pack for inpatient and outpatient care, with 50 visits to the provider
(cost of 200 per visit) of choice and 30 days in hospital over the coverage period
of 3 years. Specialist care, cancer care and all rehabilitation services are
provided by the hospital during the term of the coverage and a comparable
insurance plan with 2500 deductible and 15 co pay for outpatient visits 25 co pay
for specialist visits. Hospital costs were estimated at 800 per day with a 2500
deductible and 20% co-insurance. It is assumed that both plans cover all
necessary care and that all care is available at the network or program facilities.
